SCHOTT, Gaspar (1608-1666). Cursus mathematicus, sive absoluta omnium mathematicarum... Würzburg: Heirs of Martin Schönwetter, 1661.
2o (334 x 208 mm). Engraved additional title by A. Froehlich and 42 engraved plates mounted to fore margins of text leaves (2 folding). (Some browning and pale dampstaining, a few inkstains and chips, some creases at fore margin.) Contemporary blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards, 2 brass clasps (a little staining to covers). Provenance: early ownership inscription; Birmingham, St. Mary's College, Oscott (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION. Schott's text deals principally with mathematics, but also contains sections on astronomy, astrology, chronography, geography, dialling, mechanics, optics, hydrostatics, military fortification, etc. Also included is the appendix containing Euclid's Propositionum. Schott, a Jesuit and disciple of Athanasius Kircher, taught mathematics at Mainz and Würzburg.
