Jais Nielsen is considered one of Denmark's foremost ceramic artists of the 20th Century. After his studies he began his career as a painter in Paris. He worked at Royal Copenhagen from 1920-28, winning the Grand Prix at the Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in 1925 and 1937. He continued in his studio working on private commissions for ceramics, frescoes and stained glass until his death.

Vases of this model are in the collection of the Kunstindustrimusaet, Copenhagen, the National Museum, Stockholm, the Göteborg Museum and the Swedish Crown Prince.
