Contemporary half brown morocco gilt, spine in seven compartments with five raised bands, lettered in two, marbled paper boards, original Japan vellum wrappers bound in (extremities scuffed, corners bumped).
LIMITED EDITION, one of 350 copies on paper of a total edition of 386. The 19th century revival of the art of etching in Paris was remarkable for encouraging spontaneity and freedom in the form: these plates were completed entirely by the artist, not prepared for completion by an engraver. "... what one sees is a cross-section of the art in 1869, much as if the Société des Aquafortistes (1862-1867) had extended its activities for another two years.
