Sistres are ritual instruments from Ancient Egypt which were used by priests as musical rattles to appease dangerous deities. A Roman chair dated c. 1782-84, featuring a sistre-carved pierced splat and acquired by the Italian government in 1925, is in the Villa Borghese, Rome.
