The rectangular moulded cornice above a frieze with geometric motifs and above two panelled doors flanked and divided by stop-fluted pilasters with Ionic capitals each enclosing a plain interior with a shelf, the lower part with a pair of conforming panelled doors enclosing a plain interior with a shelf, above a base drawer with geometric motifs, on later bun feet, restorations

Lot Essay

The architectural structure of this cupboard is emphasized by its restrained ornamentation and is still reminiscent of late 16th century panelling, such as in the 'Waag' in Enkhuizen (See K. Sluyterman, Huisraad en Binnenhuis, Zaltbommel, 1947, fig.61, p. 56). A related cupboard in the Rijksmuseum, with similar Ionic columns, dated 1607, is illustrated in R. Baarsen, Nederlandse Meubelen, Zwolle, 1993, p. 9.
