RUSSIAN, MAKER'S MARK I.G. IN CYRILLIC, ST. PETERSBURG, 1908-17
Painted in oil on metal plates, the figures of classical proportions, rendered realistically, the Mother of God youthfully represented, Christ supported by her veiled forearm, dressed in a white tunic instead of his traditional chiton and himation, stretching his arms towards the viewer in an inviting and playful manner; the Pantokrator leaning on his left leg, barefoot, raising his hand in blessing and displaying the open Gospels, their haloes defined by delicate gold rims, their vestments coloured in matching red and light blue, each icon set in a silver gilt frame shaped like an arch
