Each with pierced chanelled heart-shaped back surmounted by a C-scroll and foliate cresting and centred by foliage and rockwork, the serpentine-fronted seats covered in floral velvet, on chanelled cabriole legs, one cresting replaced; and two footstools en suite (10)

Lot Essay

A related, but less ornately carved chair, was supplied in 1878 by Horrix, the celebrated 19th century furniture factory in The Hague, to Jhr. and mrs. Martens van Sevenhoven-barones Collot d'Escury and is illustrated in R. Baarsen et al., De Lelijke Tijd, Amsterdam, 1995, p. 147.
