En forme de commode tombeau, les éléments décoratifs et les tiroirs moulés en léger relief et rehaussés de dorure ou d'émaux rouge de cuivre ou brun, les côtés ornés de cartouches lobés, le dessus formant couvercle percé de cinq orifices, les surface planes ornées de semis de fleurs dans les émaux de la Famille Rose

Lot Essay

This form is taken from European faience originals; versions were made at Montpellier, Moustier and Doccia. A very similar single bulb-pot and cover was in the Mottahedeh Collection, illustrated by Howard and Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, vol.II, no.594 and sold at Sotheby's New York, 19 October 2000, lot 360. Another one is illustrated in Michel Beurdeley, Porcelaine de la Compagnie des Indes, Fribourg, Suisse 1962.
A similar pair, from the Dr. Anton C.R. Dreesmann Collection, was sold in our London Rooms, 10 April 2002, lot 498.
