拍品專文

In South India the Great goddess is known as Uma while in the northern part of the Indian sub-continent she is known through her Sanskrit name of Parvati. Uma is always portrayed by artists as a slender, seductive and beautiful woman as can be gleaned from the presented image.
A comparable bronze figure of Parvati, 14th century, sold in our New York Rooms, 22 March 2000, lot 26. Another bronze figure of Uma, dated 11th century, from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, was offered in our New York Rooms, 30 March 2006, lot 89.
