Le brûle-parfum en forme de sphère rehaussée d'une frise incisée de ruyi et portant sur un côté la marque à six caractères de l'Empereur Xuande, le couvercle ajouré de sapèques et surmonté d'une chimère, deux personnages étrangers soutenant le réceptacle, vêtus d'un pagne et d'une écharpe, parés de bijoux, le visage de type eurasien, socle en bois

Lot Essay

The faces of the figures with protuberant eyes, hooked noses, thin lips and moustaches suggest that they were intended to portray foreigners from West of China's borders. Their clothes and jewels together with this specific turban encourage this feeling.
