De forme oblongue, très finement sculpté sur une face d'un paysage lacustre et montagneux, agrémenté de pavillons et de deux personnages naviguant sur une barque au clair de lune, le côté droit rehaussé d'un grand tronc de pin aux branches tortueuses, le revers orné d'une petite cascade et d'une inscription en caractères archaïques correspondant au titre d'un poème de Zhang Ji (8e siècle) 'Mouillage de nuit au pont-des-Erables', la scène sculptée illustrant ce poème

Carved boulders of this type may be found in a variety of sizes, representing miniature idealised landscapes upon which the scholar-collector could contemplate and escape.
The carver plays with the various flaws of the stone, using the different natural colours to highlight the three-dimensional composition.
A slightly bigger white and russet jade boulder of similar shape, carved with rocky landscapes and figures is illustrated in A Romance with Jade from the De An Tang Collection, September 2004, pl.32.
