Lot Essay

The refinement of the piece and its proportions make it possible that it was part of an incense garniture set. For an example of such 18th century jade incense garniture set comprising a censer, a box and a vase, see A Special Exhibition of Incense Burners and Perfumers Throughout the Dynasties, National Palace Museum Taipei 1994, p.230, pl.85.
See also two 18th century white jade censers with similar 'dragon final', one illustrated in Jadeware (III) - The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong 1995, pl.60 ; the other in Chinese Jade, Spink London, 15th-30th June 1998, pl.8.
