A silver and enamel presentation cigarette-case
Cyrillic mark KA probably for Kirill Al'brekht, St. Petersburg, circa 1880
Rectangular, the hinged cover with enamel inscription, and applied with Cyrillic monogram EP surmounted by a viscount's coronet and the military order of St. Vladimir, the base engraved with dates, battles and applied gold banner and cavalry pouch with the star of St. Andrew, the vesta compartment with exterior striker, with tinder cord and chain fitting, the gilt interior engraved with signatures, marked inside cover and base
4 3/8 in. (11 cm.) long
The blue enamel Russian inscription on the cover translates as: From the 2nd Battery Horse Guard Artillery; those on the base translate as: Liutakov' 10 November/Umurgach 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, Balkans/Karatair 3 January/Dermendere 4 January (wounded), the banner with: For Gornyi Bugovor'/20 December 1877. Commemorating battles from the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878. The interior with signatures of the donors.
