Perhaps 19th Century
Modelled as a standing Egyptian figure supporting a tablet upon open hands, a later associated candle socket and glass storm shade surmounting the head on an ebonised rectangular plinth

Lot Essay

This lamp derives from the famous ancient sculpture of the Emperor Hadrian's favourite companion, Antinuous, which had been rediscovered at Hadrian's villa in 1740. Antinuous had drowned in the river Nile and was posthumously celebrated as a demi-god, by the Emperor, who was famously fascinated with Egypt.
