Lot Essay

Charles Percier (1764-1838) and Pierre Francois Leonard Fontaine (1762-1853) were French neo-classical architects, interior decorators and designers. Their close partnership developed the richly grand and archaeological version of neo-classicism recognised as the Directoire and Empire styles. This was translated into a number of books, most notably, Palais, maisons et autres edifices modernes dessines a Rome, Paris, 1798 and Recueil de decorations interieur comprenant tout ce qui a rapport a l'ameublement,, Paris, 1812.
