Lot Essay

The vase on the left of this drawing is in the manner of the Albani vase that Thomas Hope copied from the Albani and Barberini collections. A pair was made and placed at one end of his sculpture gallery at Duchess Street, as guardians to the entrance to the other rooms of his mansion.
