Lot Essay

Robert Mols was a student of Jean-François Millet and Jules Dupré in Paris, later travelling throughout Europe in search of the seaside views from which he drew such inspiration. The present lot is a fine example of the way in which he delighted in rendering the marvellous effects of wide horizon-lines and the changing moods of the sea, set against one of the most spectacular vistas of Venice.
