A RARE SOLOMON ISLANDS CEREMONIAL SHIELD
Of tapering oblong form, the outer rim with a triple row of mother-of-pearl inlay, the central field divided into two parts, the larger upper section with a stylized standing human figure in the centre, with raised arms, face with eyes, nose and mouth, flanked by two curved lines, the lower part with central stylized mask, flanked by similar curved lines, the mother-of-pearl shell set into alternating bands of red and black coulered paste, plaited rattan base, the reverse with long wooden vertical rod as grip
