Dow--Vintage 1945
Four with damaged capsules and two without capsules. Very bin-soiled and damaged labels. Levels four into neck and two base of neck
Tasting Note: Bottled, unusually, in 1949 and only 9 'pipes' shipped to the UK. Many notes, initially sweet for Dow, though with dry finish. Most recently from a magnum burgundy bottle with fully branded cork, probably (due to the post-war bottle shortages) bottled by Rigby & Evens or Harvey's in Bristol (see also Fonseca 1948 in 'Vintage Wine'). Fully mature but lively colour; very good, classic bouquet, and touch of liquorice; now medium sweet, good tannin and acidity, lovely flavour. Last tasted Dec 2005 ***** M.B.
