Marqués de Riscal Gran Reserva--Vintage 1996

Vintage
The weather conditions in the vineyard during 1996 were marked by a considerable frost on April 5th which significantly reduced the crop. This was followed by regular, though not excessive, rainfall. July was very hot and veraison took place in dry weather conditions, which is fundamental for the production of high quality grapes. This uniformity was only interrupted by two storms in August which totalled 30 l/m2. September was somewhat wetter and registered a number of days with significant diurnal temperature variation:, from 6 degrees at night to almost 30 degrees during the day. This contrast was ideal for the ripening and colour development of the grapes
Tasting Note: Complex aromas of honey and balsamic. Intense red colour with shades of chestnut, towards the rim. Fresh and smooth on the palate with perceptible tannins, and toasty flavours which contribute with the other complex flavours to a long satisfying finish
