The pierced egg-shaped brass frames joined by ten rear-screwed pillars, engraved and silvered Roman chapter ring below silvered subsidiary rings for strike/silent, signed Rippin/SPALDING, and seven tune music selection (Scots wha./buy a broom/waltz/song/highd.laddie/hunts. chorus/100th. Psalm), blued steel hands, triple chain fusees with maintaining power to going fusee, dead beat escapement, playing the music on a nest of eight bells via 7 cm. long pin barrel and hour strike/trip repeat on further bell; ebonised base, pendulum

James Rippin is recorded working in Spalding 1868-1876. Roberts (p.114) states that there are several skeleton clocks known by him, all of which have unusual egg-shaped frames and dead beat escapements with maintaining power. There is a striking skeleton clock by Rippin illustrated in Roberts (p.114, fig).
