Caspar Kaufmann is recorded as a clockmaker 1815-1852. A fine grande sonnerie Viennese wall clock of month duration by him is illustrated, Frederick Kaltenböck, Die Wiener Uhr, Munchen, 1988, p.210, plate 471.

The six-light case with architectural pediment, brass adjusting screws and concave moulded base, gilt-brass bezel to two-piece 8½ in. diameter silvered dial with Roman chapter ring and centre signed KAUFMANN IN WIEN, out-set strike/silent lever by I, delicate blued steel hands, the movement with arched plates joined by four pillars, dead beat escapement and strike/repeat on two blued steel gongs of circular section mounted to the seatboard; ebonised wood-rod pendulum, three brass-cased weights, winding key
