A Japanese Arita blue and white ovoid jar and cover and a Japanese Imari charger
late 17th and 18th Century
The jar painted with large panels of chrysanthemum, peony and bamboo in rocky gardens on a ground of stylised flower-scrolls, the foot and shoulder decorated with various geometrical patterns, the cover with a floral decoration, cover reglued, chip, 44.5 cm. high; and an Imari charger painted and gilt to the central medallion with a shishi surrounded by peonies and asters, surrounded to the well and rim with large shaped panels of further shishi and cranes in flight, rim chip and crack, 55.3 cm. diam.
