Lot Essay

The sitter's hairstyle and dress suggest a date of 1605-1615. The headdress and accessories correspond with those in a Marcus Gheeraerts Portrait of Anne of Denmark, of circa 1610 (Bedford Collection).
We are grateful to Susan North of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, for her comments on the sitter's costume.
