The centre with a half-length portrait of Charles II in blue with manganese hair, ochre crown and medallion and ochre sleeves to his robes, flanked by the initials CR within a double-line circular cartouche, two cracks to rim at 4 and 5 o'clock, flaking to rim on front and underside

Lot Essay

The only other recorded plate with a portrait of Charles II is illustrated in Anthony Ray, English Delftware in the Robert Hall Warren Collection (London, 1968), p.118, p. 18, pl. 6. It was formerly in the Harland Collection, sold Sotheby's London, 11th February 1931, lot 63.
