The gilt-tooled leather top of serpentine outline above a frieze drawer and pedestal base inlaid to all sides with foliate scrolls, the side door enclosing four drawers, with additional slides at either side, stamped EDWARDS & ROBERTS, WARDOUR ST. LONDON

By 1854 the firm was trading as Edwards and Roberts, 21 Wardour Street,Antique and Modern cabinet makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture.The firm expanded rapidly and was both a manufacturer and retailer of imported furniture and was particularly renowned for its revival of 'old French styles'.
