Alfred Delobbe entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1851 and studied under Thomas Couture (1815-1879) and William Adolph Bouguereau (1825-1905). Following this academic training Delobbe maintained an academic style throughout his career and did not vary his subject matter greatly, mirroring the artistic tastes of the time. From the 1870s onwards Delobbe focused on the female figure, and incorporated it in his landscapes in a variety of poses, though always barefoot. During the remainder of his carrer, he exhibited his works regularly at Paris Salon.
