Inspired by the portrait executed by Count Rotari around 1758, the present profile also appears to have been influenced by a later version executed by August Sandoz (see D. A. Rovinskii, Dictionary of Russian Engraved Portraits, St. Petersburg, 1887, vol. 2, p. 831, no. 224; and A. B. Morozov, Catalogue of my collection of Russian engraved and lithographed portraits, Moscow, 1913, vol. 2, no. 203).
In the present portrait the Empress wears a pearl necklace and a laurel crown which can be seen in the Sandoz version, yet is absent from that painted by Rotari.
