Lot Essay

(1) This is a contemporary Italian imitation of the first edition of Tirion's first Atlas, the Nieuwe en beknopte Handatlas, Amsterdam, 1740. No copy of the first edition seems to have survived, and it is known only through the Italian edition of the same year, of which the above chart formed a part. For further discussion see Koeman III, p. 126.
