Engraved chart (472 x 373 mm.), watermark encircled helmet and countermark beehive, untrimmed margins, except the left. The chart covers the Straits of Sunda and the proximate parts of Java and Sumatra, coastal settlements and features named, decorative title cartouche, engraved galleon, and compass rose. (Vertical centre fold, minor foxing on the reverse, some surface dirt, otherwise in excellent condition.)

This chart is from Dell' Arcano dell Mare by Sir Robert Dudley (1573-1649), first published by Francesco Onofri, Florence, 1646-1647, which was the first marine atlas with all maps drawn on Mercator projections.
