Lot Essay

Paul Maitland was born in London and studied at the Royal College of Art and taught there. He was a pupil of Roussel and a friend of Whistler. He spent much of his time painting in parks in London and always painted directly from nature. He is represented in the Tate Gallery and Victoria and Albert Museum.
