Lot Essay
The shape, style of carving and the very distinctive off-centred fixing of the baluster stem into the base of the cup offered here is very similar to a group of vessels monogrammed by the ivory turner to the Dresden court, Egidius Lobenigk (active between 1584-1595). The most comparable examples are the oval cup and cover in the Grünes Gewölbe, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Syndram and Scerner, loc. cit.) dated 1586, and another with Georg Laue from the same period (Laue, loc. cit.).
