Lot Essay

The sideboard wine-cistern or cellaret, with Egyptian reeded pillars, and Grecian reeded urn feet, appears to have evolved from a pattern for a herm-tapered sideboard and 'tapered cellaret' published in The Supplement to the Cabinet-Makers London Book of Prices, and Designs of Cabinet-Work, London, 1805 (pl.1). A related cellaret was sold Christie's London, Scone and Blairquhan, 24 May 2007, lot 72.
