The Greek-key broken cornice above a conforming blind-fret carved frieze, below three short drawers and three long graduated drawers, the lower section with three long graduated drawers on ogee bracket feet, the handles original, various contemporary pencil inscriptions including '81 foot of 1/2 inch Oak'

Lot Essay

The 'tallboy' chest-of-drawers, with its Roman plinth-enriched pediment and ogee bracket feet relate to furniture by Gillows of Lancaster and is typical of their cabinet-furniture of the 1780s. (see L. Boynton, Gillows Furniture Designs, Royston, 1995, fig. 134.)
