The hinged lid, front and sides with pierced spandrels, leaves, Buddha figures, brass and copper bosses, some minted coins depicting the VOC coat-of arms and monogram dated 1743, on shaped legs
24½ in. (61 cm.) high; 37 in. (94 cm.) wide; 16½ in. (42 cm.) deep

The Dutch East India Company or VOC was established in 1602 and granted colonial monopoly rights in Asia, which included the right to mint coins, wage war, establish colonies and negotiate treaties. It was formally dissolved in 1800.
