IMPERIAL, PALACE WORKSHOPS, BEIJING, 1700-1780
Of well-hollowed compressed meiping form with slightly concave lip and shallow recessed flat oval foot surrounded by a footrim, the shoulder carved with a broad band of formalized lingzhi-head design, above a central band of an archaistic dragon and fenghuang on each main side, above a band of formalized leaf-lappets, all between simulated rope borders, the narrow sides with mask and ring handles, coral stopper with jadeite collar

Lot Essay

This bottle is typical in every way of the small group of bottles made for and almost certainly at the Court. It is of the yellow material beloved by the Qing emperors, has the typical small mask handles of Court style, and is decorated with bands of archaistic design and rope borders all taken from the ancient bronze culture and typical of Courtly production.
