Stylistically, the carving on the current bottle is Ming rather than Qing. The winged dragon in this style was common on Ming metalwork, ceramics and other applied arts and relatively rarer during the Qing dynasty. The shape is also not typical of the snuff bottle and it is probably a pre-snuff container for a different material which has been converted for use as a snuff bottle by the addition of a spoon and stopper. As such it is extremely rare, since despite the many protestations that Ming medicine bottles were converted for use as snuff bottles during the Qing, medicine bottles which are convincingly Ming in any material are rare.
