Essays on Hunting. Containing a Philosophical Enquiry into the Nature and Properties of Scent ... new addition, with a supplement, containing an Account of the Vizier's Manner of Hunting in the Mogul Empire by William Blane. London: John Stockdale and Southampton: T. Baker, 1788. 8°, contemporary tree calf, gilt spine with red morocco label (upper cover almost detached). Provenance: Brook William Bridges (bookplate; with his gift inscription to Mr. E. Cage).

Third edition. The third edition is the most rare, and the first to include Blane's valuable "Account of the Vizier's Manner of Hunting" in addition to Beckford's "Philosophical Enquiry" and Gardiner's "Six Letters on Harehunting". ESTC records only one copy at Birmingham University which, according to the collation provided, must lack this additional part. cf. Schwerdt I, p. 164.

With the two previous editions: the first Southampton and London, [1781], 8° (top margins stained, irrelevant biro note on rear free endpaper), contemporary speckled calf (joints slightly split, extremities chipped and bumped); the second edition Southampton and London, [1782?], 8° (L1-2 affected by paper fault), uncut in modern calf-backed boards, preserving contemporary front wrapper.
