Small 8° (without final errata leaf, title with 1in. internal tear near head, preface with large ink stain at head also affecting title verso, margins cut close causing slight loss to P6r and T6, U1 with short tear touching on text, some spots and stains), late 19th-century russia tooled in gilt and blind (lightly rubbed). FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST BOOK ON IRISH HUNTING, from one of the earliest presses in Belfast where printing was established in 1697/98. The author was among the first to argue that a pack of hounds should be specifically trained to hunt foxes and avoid other game. ESTC records 5 copies at BL, Cambridge University Library, Linen Hall Library, Belfast, Virginia State Library and Yale. Schwerdt IV, p. 88: "Exceedingly rare".
