The New Sporting Magazine. London: May 1832-October 1833 and May 1835-October 1835. Volumes III-V and IX only, 8°, engraved plates (first vol. dampstained and lacking leaves at end, occasional soiling), various contemporary cloth bindings.
Robert Surtees started the New Sporting Magazine in 1831 with his friend the art publisher, Rudolph Ackermann. The present volumes are of interest for their reports of cricket matches which saw the emergence of such stars as Fuller Pilch and Alfred Mynn. Volume V contains a "Cricketers' Register for 1833" at the end (pp. 1-32) which is probably the longest report on a cricket season yet made in the pages of a contemporary journal. See also vol.
