South India, late Chola period, 13th/14th century
Elegantly cast standing in sensual tribhanga atop a lotus base over a waisted plinth, her right arm extended and her left raised with a lotus blossom, clad in a long dhoti incised with foliate patterns secured with an elaborate pendant belt, further adorned with beaded jewelry and a breast band, her face with full lips and almond-shaped eyes, her curled hair surmounted by a high stepped lotus headdress and backed by an openwork mandala
