Lot Essay

This pattern of candelabra-stand (guridon porte-luminare or torchre), with pillar raised on truss-scrolled altar tripod, relates to Louis Quatorze patterns after A.-Ch. Boulle issued by Mariette around 1700. A pair of Rgence stands of this pattern, but with taller tazzae at the top, was sold Christie's New York on 16 December 1989 lot 160.
