Lot Essay

The Egyptian palm-flowered seat of antique folding form derives from the Tabouret en X introduced by the Rome-trained architect Charles Percier and illustrated in C. Percier and P. Fontaine, Recueil de decorations interieures, 1801. Perciers original design, now preserved in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, would have been intended for the manufactory of Jacob Fréres of the Rue Meslé
