A Set of Sword Fittings
Edo period (18th century), each tsuba signed Soheishi Nyudo Soten sei
The entire set designed in shakudo and carved in relief with scenes from the twelfth-century Genpei wars, notably the Battle of Ichinotani and Yashima and comprising: a daisho pair of tsuba decorated with warriors attacking and defending a castle rendered in taka-bori, shishiai-bori and gold and copper taka-zogan and hira-zogan; two pairs of fuchi-gashira decorated with warriors engaged in battle in boats rendered in gold, copper, silver and shakudo taka-zogan and taka-bori; two pairs of menuki carved as warriors in boats in gold, copper and shakudo taka-zogan and taka-bori; a Goto-school shakudo-nanako-ji kozuka with the Taira forces fleeing in boats from the Minamoto forces, rendered in gold and shakudo taka-zogan and taka-bori
