An Awataguchi Tanto
Edo period (late 17th century), signed Ikkanshi Awataguchi Tadatsuna and dated Genroku hachinen nigatsu hi (1695.2) and inscribed Hori dosaku (carved by smith)
Hira-zukuri, iori-mune with a slight curvature, forging pattern ko-itame mixed with mokume in ji-nie with a broad notare tempered edge of nie, nioi and sunagashi, Jizo boshi with some mune-yaki, omote carved with dragon entwined around a Buddhist ken, ura carved with goma-bashi and bonji, tang ubu, kuri-jiri with suji-kai file marks with two holes, one plugged, two-piece gold habaki; 9½in. (24cm.) long; in shirasaya inscribed by Hon'ami Koson
