The bacchic cone-finialed krater vase, with eagle-headed and truss-scrolled handles, is wreathed by Roman foliage beneath a bas-relief, which features a youthful Silenus and his companions celebrating the Feast of Bacchus and is in the manner of François du Quesnoy (d.1643). A set of related vases, in the Louis Quatorze style of Daniel Marot (d.1752) is at Studley Park, Yorkshire (see L. Weaver, English Lead Work, London 1909, fig. 334). A comparable pair were offered at Christie's South Kensington on the 22 May 1990, lot 206.
