Lot Essay

Tommy Nutter (1943-1992) combined the skills of the classic British Savile Row tailor with an innate sense of fashion and the evolution of style. After opening his own shop in 1968, he famously dressed the Beatles, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Andrew Lloyd Webber and even Sir Hardy Amies himself. His deep appreciation for both traditional quality and modern style set him apart from other designers of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
