Annual production is approximately 360,000 bottles. Marcel and François Borie bought the vineyard in 1932, and during the Second World War decided to divide the property as François had become involved in Ducru-Beaucaillou and there were issues with inheritance taxes. Marcel retained Batailley, and François assumed control of the newly created Haut-Batailley. Marcel Borie passed away in 1961, and the property passed to his daughter Denise, who was married to Emile Castéja. In 2003 their son, Philippe Castéja took over the running of the estate. The vines have an average age of 40 years and are planted on soils with a deep gravel bed over a subsoil of clay and sandstone. Fermentation occurs mainly in steel vats, and the wines are aged for approximately 18 months in 50 new oak.
