More recently the château was bought in 2001 for the equivalent of 36 million pounds by the Irish banker Lochlann Quinn. Since 1999 Jean-Luc Marchive, who formerly worked at Château L'Evangile, has been the winemaker. The property has 40 hectares of red, which are planted with 60 Cabernet Sauvignon, 33 Merlot, 4.5 Cabernet Franc and 2.5 Petit Verdot, and 8 hectares of white grapes, planted with 50 Sémillon and 50 Sauvignon Blanc. The average age of the vines is 30 years and planting density is 8,300 vines per hectare. The soils are rich in white gravels from the Villafranchien era which contribute to their free draining capacity. Both the red and the white wines are aged in 50 new oak barrels for between 16 to 24 months. Annual production is approximately 10,000 cases of red and 2,500 cases of white, and the second wine is Abeille de Fieuzal.

Château de Fieuzal (Rouge)--Vintage 2000
Léognan (Graves), cru classé
Tasting Note: Aromas of lead pencil, tobacco leaf, liquorice, and crème de cassis are offered in an outstanding, medium to full-bodied, concentrated style. There is tremendous purity as well as flavour dimension. This opaque ruby/purple-coloured offering is one of the finest de Fieuzals produced over the last decade.
