The estate was acquired in 1979 by Lucien Lurton, and has subsequently passed to his daughter Sophie who assumed control in 1995, and is ably assisted by her husband, Laurent Cogombles. Significant investments have been made in the property with improvements in the cellar such as a new circular winery built in 1990 and a new barrel maturation room, replanting the vineyards and the acquisition of the neighbouring Lamothe-Bouscaut property. The soils are predominantly clay and gravel over a limestone base. The average age of vines is 40 years. Unusually for the appellation the red wines are dominated by Merlot which accounts for just over half of the blend. The red grapes are fermented with pumpovers and délestage. Some plots will undergo malolactic fermentation in oak barrels while others remain in tanks. The wine is blended in January and then aged in oak of which 45 is new oak for between 12 and 18 months before bottling in June. The white grapes are crushed and macerated for between 24 and 48 hours. Then the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak barriques and aged for approximately ten months with regular bâtonnage to stir up the lees and develop additional complexity, smoothness and fullness. Approximately 100,000 bottles of red and 20,000 bottles of white are produced each year.

Château Bouscaut--Vintage 2000
Pessac-Léognan (Graves), cru classé
Tasting Note: Bouscaut's 2000 possesses a dark ruby/purple colour in addition to aromas of spicy new oak, red and blackcurrant fruit. Medium-bodied, with sweet tannin, and a nicely-textured, moderately-endowed finish, it will drink well until 2015. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 146, April 2003.
